Acupuncture has a history that dates back thousands of years. Acupuncture originates in China and has some historical usage in Egypt. Acupuncture is an alternative form of therapy that involves using needles inserted in points of the body to treat illnesses. In the United States, acupuncture can be traced back to the 1970s. It is reported that a New York Times journalist received acupuncture as a form of anesthetic during an emergency appendectomy while he was in China. From that point on, acupuncture grew in acceptance in the Western World.<./p>

Acupuncture specialists are now to be found all over the world. There is a large interest in holistic medicine and a number of schools focusing on this type of healing. There are 360 areas that can be stimulated via acupuncture. The needles are left in for an average of 30 to 45 minutes, then removed. Acupuncture is not considered painful and is used for everything from weight loss to detoxification and much more.
