Acupuncture Points -- Ear

Acupuncture as a form of therapy has been around for thousands of years. It originates in ancient China and involves the use of needles to manipulate key points on the body. As an example, acupuncture is often used to stimulate metabolism and therefore encourage weight loss. It can also be used to release feel good endorphin hormones in the body as well as to help with detoxification. There are literally hundreds of points in the body where acupuncture needles can be inserted. In this info piece I will describe points in the ear which can be used for acupuncture.

The ear has various points which can be used for acupuncture. There is also a form of acupuncture called ear acupuncture, which actually specializes in needling the ears only. In the mid 20th century, a French physician mapped the points on the ear which correspond to different parts of the body. His studies caught the attention of researchers in China, who continued his work but integrated acupuncture for the purposes of stimulating these mapped points. Like the hands and feet, the ear is a holographic map of the body.

Every part of the body is represented by a discrete area on the ear. For example, to stimulate the feet, there are spots located approximately in the upper middle right area which correspond to the heel, toes and ankle. There are so many various points in precise locations that it is necessary to use an object such as an acupuncture needle to stimulate them. Some therapists may also use a pointed object to press on the point but not puncture the skin. They may even use ear jewelry for stimulation purposes.
