Acupuncture is a form of alternative therapy with its roots in ancient China. Although once ignored by Westerners it has now found its way into Western society and is practiced widely in many countries including the United States. The average treatment takes around an hour from start to finish, and the needles are usually left in for around thirty minutes to an hour.

The immune system can even be stimulated with acupuncture. There are a large number of reasons why you may want to seek this kind of holistic healing. People have even used acupuncture to conquer harmful addictions such as cigarette smoking. In many cases, this therapy is used in conjunction with other types of holistic therapies such as herbology, acupressure, massage, reflexology and aromatherapy. How many sessions you will require for maximum benefits will depend on your individual problem, how your body responds to treatment and what your practitioner thinks is best.

More often than not, acupuncture is now used alongside. More and more modern physicians are using a combination of East-meets-West medical techniques in their practices. If you would like to try acupuncture for yourself, the first step is finding someone qualified to administer it. Depending on your location, you may find one or more clinics which specialize in this procedure or even a physician who offers it in conjunction with traditional medicine.
