Acupuncture for Weight Loss
![]() |
The battle of the bulge is a common problem these days. Excess weight is not only unattractive but is also unhealthy. Two ways to reduce weight is diet and exercise. However, sometimes you might want a little extra help. Acupuncture is an age old alternative therapy for obesity. Rather than using unnatural and potentially dangerous diet pills, acupuncture is often an effective way of stimulating a sluggish metabolism and encouraging weight loss. It can be used with other natural remedies like herbs and massage to encourage those stubborn pounds to melt away.
Getting acupuncture does not mean that you can live a sedentary lifestyle and eat whatever you like. On the contrary, this form of Chinese medicine works best when integrated into a healthy lifestyle. Your first step should be to develop a healthy nutritional plan that provides a good balance of all the food groups. When choosing elements of your diet, go for healthy selections. For example, if you want sugar eat a piece of fruit. For protein, eat beans, fish and skinless chicken. Carbs should come in the form of whole grains. And fats should be the healthy types such that found in olive oil, flaxseed and wild salmon.
Exercise is another important factor. To speed up weight loss and encourage total body health, aim for three to five sessions of cardio per week supplemented with three to five strength and flexibility training sessions. Make sure you're drinking lots of pure water throughout the day, whether you're working out or not. Water is necessary for life and helps flush out impurities. If you dislike the taste of plain water, try a flavored variety or add a squeeze of fresh lemon. Once you've introduced diet, exercise and proper hydration into your life, you can add acupuncture to enhance the results.
Acupuncture for weight loss involves the insertion of extremely thin needles into strategic points of the body. The stimulation of these points can rev up the metabolism, release feel good chemicals in the brain, and reduce the appetite. Many people think the idea of needle therapy is frightening, but the truth is acupuncture is practically painless. Once you try this alternative therapy and see the results for yourself, you might decide to integrate regular acupuncture sessions into your healthy new lifestyle.
