Acupuncture is a form of alternative therapy which is often misunderstood. It dates back to ancient China and involves the insertion of needles to enhance natural healing and stimulate natural functions of the body. Some problems which are treated by acupuncture include acne, depression, weight loss, arthritis, back pain and body detoxification. Whether you are looking to develop a career in holistic healing or someone who is looking at acupuncture for yourself, acupuncture charts are available online and can be downloaded from various web sites.
There are both free and commercial (paid for) charts available to be downloaded. On your downloaded chart, you will see the 360 points at which the needles can be inserted. Each point corresponds to a different function or area of the body. This is a similar theory to that of reflexology. Reflexology uses the skillful manipulation of pressure points on the feet and hands to affect different areas. For example, someone with sinus problems or headaches might have focused work done on the toes, while someone with back pain may have treatment on the middle of the sole. Acupuncture is like this because the point where the needles are inserted may not be the point at which the problem is occurring.
An acupuncture session can take about an hour, with the needles being left in for about 30-45 minutes. Some practitioners will provide you with music or television to keep you occupied while you're waiting. The most common complaints during treatment are numbness, soreness and occasional heaviness. Some people experience results right away, while others need numerous or regular treatments. Depending on where you are in the world and the practitioner you choose, an acupuncture session will cost anywhere from $20 to upwards of $100 per hour.
If you are an acupuncture student, then acupuncture charts downloadable from web sites can help your studies and give you a handy reference. Some charts are small, some are large. Some feature bright color, while others are less colorful. As mentioned before, some are free, while others cost money. When you print your downloaded chart, you may want to use a heavy card stock. Or, you can print a preliminary copy and take it to your local copy shop to have it enlarged on heavier paper and laminated. Laminating your chart will ensure it stays in perfect condition for years to come.
